The threshold
What this language does
LSF is not gestural French: it is a complete language, with its own grammar, syntax and poets. It uses a dimension spoken languages do not have — space — and it is simultaneous where the others are sequential.
The untranslatable
The signer stops narrating the character and becomes the character, body included. The story moves from third person to first without a single word changing.
Hello
Bonjour
an open hand moving forward from the chin — the gesture goes from you to the other
Work in progress
The question that runs through the whole book: what is a literature without writing? LSF has poems, formal games, a tradition — and no books. A chapter to be built with signers, not about them.

Each chapter ends with a conversation with someone who lives in the language.
